Uvodni glagoli: say i tell
Glagole say i tell koristimo u uvodnoj konstrukciji kada želimo prepričamo izjave iz upravnog govora.
Mnogo češće upotrebljavamo glagol say u odnosu na glagol tell. Takođe, sa glagolom say ne pominjemo uvek osobu kojoj se govori, ali ako to navodimo, potrebno je da se iskoristi predlog to:
- ”I will give you a book tomorrow,” she said.
- ”I will give you a book tomorrow,” she said to me in a low voice.
Kada upotrebljavamo glagol tell, obavezno navodimo osobu kojoj se govori/obraća, i u tim slučajevima se koristi indirektni objekat.
- ”Try to stay calm,” he told them.
Dakle, glagoli say i tell se koriste kao uvodni glagoli koje koristimo u upravnom, odnosno neupravnom govoru, samo je važno upamtiti pravila njihove upotrebe.
Ako naglašavamo kome se neko obraća, koristićemo tell. U suprotnom, koristimo glagol say.
- What did he tell the police?
- Tina said that you were not at home.

- He said goodbye to me and left the house.
tell somebody to… and ask somebody to…:
- direct speech: ”Eat more fruit,” the doctor said to me.
reported speech: The doctor told me to eat more fruit. - direct speech: ”Can you help me with my homework,” Anna said to me.
reported speech: Anna asked me to help her with her homework.

Kada prenosimo čestitke, pozdrave i druge želje u neupravni govor, koristićemo glagol say:
- My parents said good luck to me as I went into the job interview.
