Tekstualno objašnjenje za Modalne glagole u prošlom vremenu
Modalni glagoli u prošlom vremenu
Kada koristimo modalne glagole u prošlosti, onda se prati sledeća struktura:
modalni glagol + have + V-ed/III kolona
Dakle, ako je pravilan glagol, dodajemo nastavak -ed, a ako je nepravilan glagol koristimo Past Participle od datog glagola.
Naravno, u engleskom jeziku postoje i određeni izuzeci.
Određeni glagoli nemaju gore pomenute promene, can, will, shall, may već imaju svoje odgovarajuće oblike u prošlosti: could, would, should, might. Drugačija promena je i za glagol must – prošli oblik je had to.
U nastavku ćemo kroz primere detaljnije prikazati sama pravila promena. Prošlo vreme modalnog glagola je istaknuto.

Should have, could have, would have se nazivaju i modali nekadašnjih mogućnosti, jer opisuju situacije iz prošlosti koje zanišljamo da su mogle biti drugačije.
Should se koristi za savete i predloge, could za mogućnosti, a would za iskazivanje želja, samo se u ovom slučaju primenjuju u prošlosti.
